yall are probably wondering how tf this song came to be and lowkey a storytime video would be best, so i'll keep it brief here.

i first met #Thundercat in 2014 when i was living in Koreatown, LA. it was backstage of Jojo (not Siwa) live show. we stayed friends since, just checkin in, congratulating each other, hangin in tokyo, random LA clubs, the whole nine. mind you, i never brought up making music together cuz i wanted the timing to be just right. 2019, that time came while workin on my debut album. we went back n forth over facetime cuz at this point i'd moved to chicago. there was actually 3 records we considered but ultimately decided on this one.

i called this song "vaporwaves" because our existence is fleeting and we tend to forget that. as people, as humanity, we're as insignificant as we are significant. in the wake of losing our friend mac miller, this kinda stuff was just on our minds. i hope yall enjoy and please check out my other songs.

きっとみんな「この曲どうやって生まれたの？」って思ってるよね。ちゃんと話すならストーリータイム動画が一番なんだけど、ここでは簡単に書くよ。

初めて #Thundercat に会ったのは2014年。俺がLAのコリアタウンに住んでた頃で、Jojo（シワじゃない方）のライブのバックステージだった。それからずっと友達で、近況報告し合ったり、東京で会ったり、LAのクラブで遊んだり、いろいろあった。ちなみに、ずっと音楽を一緒にやろうとは言わなかった。タイミングが完璧になるまで待ってたんだ。

そのタイミングが来たのが2019年。俺のデビューアルバムを作ってる時だった。当時はもうシカゴに引っ越してたから、Facetimeでやり取りして。実は3曲候補があって、その中から最終的にこの曲を選んだんだ。

曲のタイトル「vaporwaves（ヴェイパーウェーブス）」は、「俺たちの存在は儚い」って意味を込めてる。人として、人類として、俺たちは意味があるようで、同時にないような存在。マック・ミラーを亡くしたあとの時期だったから、そういうことが心に残ってて。
