This one was meant to be.

What started as a random local find turned into something much bigger. A yellow classic dump truck shows up at just the right time — and with my wife’s late mother’s favorite color staring back at us, it felt like more than coincidence. Sometimes these old machines pick you.

The registration sticker says it hasn’t run in 30 years.
No one knows the last time it fired.
No guarantees. No history. No promises.

So… let’s see if it lives.

🛻 THE TRUCK

Originally born blue-green, later painted yellow, and no longer running its factory straight-six — this old workhorse now carries a mystery small block Chevy under the hood. Based on casting numbers (3970010) and the stamp V0905CNR, all signs point toward a 1970s 350, but we need your help confirming that.

Big 4-barrel carb.
Manual everything.
No power steering.
No power brakes.
Just raw, mechanical Chevy.

Exactly how we like it.

🔧 WHAT WE TACKLE IN THIS VIDEO

Blowing decades of debris off the intake
Checking oil condition and coolant
Freeing up frozen throttle linkage
First crank attempt
Distributor teardown (yes… spiders included 🕷️)
Rewiring plug order (1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 clockwise)
Ultrasonic carb cleaning
Pony tank gravity fuel setup
Compression test on all 8 cylinders
New plugs installed
Coolant refill and leak check
And finally…

🎉 FIRST FIRE IN THREE DECADES

It runs.
And it sounds GOOD.

No knocking.
No clanking.
Strong oil pressure.
Smooth revving.

We’ve got fuel system issues to sort out (tank, pump, idle circuit), but this engine might be healthier than expected.

This is just the beginning.
