Ben & Rachel’s Tumbling Waters Retreat Wedding: Rain, Love, and Laughter
There’s something unforgettable about a wedding where love truly shines through, no matter the weather. Ben and Rachel’s big day at Tumbling Waters Retreat in Stanwell Tops, perched high above Wollongong, was one of those rare weddings where the rain only added to the magic.
It was wet. Like, really wet. Think leeches, soaked shoes, and umbrellas working overtime. But not once did it put a damper on the mood.
From the moment we arrived, the energy was warm and full of heart. Both Ben and Rachel got ready on-site in the retreat’s beautiful accommodation. There’s something special about having everything in one place, less rushing around, more soaking it all in (pun intended).
The ceremony was held outdoors, despite the rain, with guests and the couple huddled under clear umbrellas. Their vows were a perfect blend of heartfelt and hilarious. There wasn’t a dry eye or dry anything, really, but everyone embraced it, which just made it all the more memorable.
We captured their portraits around the lush grounds, umbrellas in hand and grins from ear to ear. Rain has a way of softening the light and adding a dreamy texture to everything, and this was no exception. The backdrop at Tumbling Waters, even through a misty lens, was absolutely stunning.
The reception was full of life. From emotional speeches to a packed dance floor, it was the kind of night where every single person in the room was fully present, laughing, crying, and just having the best time.
We always say the best weddings are the ones where the couple leans in to whatever the day brings. Ben and Rachel did exactly that. It was raw, real, and full of love and we’re so lucky to have been there to capture every moment.
You can also check out their pre-wedding portrait shoot we did in Sydney as well which was a mixutre of digital and film photography.

STYLE
This wedding was shot using both handheld rig and the gimbal. We also like to emulate film when shooting, to achieve this we shoot a flat S-LOG3 profile on a Sony A7siii to preserve highlights and shadows. All colour grading is done by us in FCPX and use Dehancer Pro for grain, additional blooming, halation on a Kodak Endura Glossy Paper print emulation. Along with using Phantom Luts.
