David Torn is an American guitarist, composer, and producer. Born on May 26, 1953, in Amityville, New York, he is known for combining electronic and acoustic instruments and using looping techniques.

Torn has collaborated with a wide range of artists including David Bowie, k.d. lang, John Legend, Madonna, and Tori Amos. His music has been featured in several films such as "Friday Night Lights," "The Big Lebowski," and "The Departed." He also records under the moniker "splattercell."

In the 1990s, Torn was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain tumor called acoustic neuroma, but he has continued to compose, record, and perform. His music crosses the boundaries of experimental jazz and electronic music, boasting unique textures and styles.
