Robinson Crusoe on Mars (1964), directed by Byron Haskin, stars Paul Mantee and a cameo from pre-Batman Adam West in a stripped-down survival story on mars.

Planet of the Vampires (1965), directed by Mario Bava, is all fog and creeping dread, with Barry Sullivan leading a space crew, movie is a pure mood piece and one of the most visually influential 60s sci-fi movies ever made.

Matango (1963), directed by Ishirō Honda (Godzilla), traps a group of castaways on a island and lets the story slide into pure unease and body horror that shows a much darker, more experimental side of Japanese science fiction.

Voyage to the End of the Universe (1963), also known as Ikarie XB-1 and directed by Jindřich Polák, follows an international crew on a deep-space mission that feels eerily calm until it really isn’t.

Unearthly Stranger (1963), directed by John Krish, plays like a low-key British paranoia thriller, with John Neville at the center of a mystery that built entirely on quiet tension and atmosphere.

Quatermass and the Pit (1967), directed by Roy Ward Baker, stars Andrew Keir and slowly uncovers a terrifying truth and is often cited as one of the most serious and unsettling entries in British sci-fi.

The Day the Earth Caught Fire (1961), directed by Val Guest, stars Edward Judd and Janet Munro in a near-future disaster story that feels uncomfortably grounded and very cynical.
