The Four Asian Tigers refer to the four rapidly growing economies in Asia from the late 1960s to the 1990s: Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong. The Four Asian Tigers were dominated by agriculture and light industry (small factories) before the 1970s, and the economy developed rapidly from the 1970s to the 1990s. They take advantage of the opportunity from developed countries to transfer labor-intensive industries to developing countries, attract a large amount of foreign capital and technology, take advantage of local cheap and good labor, and adjust their economic development strategies in a timely manner. The developed countries or regions have also become one of the economic locomotives in East Asia and Southeast Asia. Their successful economic development process and experience are typical examples of development economics research.
