A Total Lunar Eclipse (also called a Blood Moon) will occur on the night of March 13 - 14, 2025 over North and South America. A Total Lunar Eclipse occurs when the Moon passes completely into the Earth's Umbral Shadow and turns red due to red wavelengths of light being reflected onto the Moon. Other colors such as blue get scattered away by the Earth's atmosphere. Totality will last for 1 hour and 6 minutes. The Partial Stages of the eclipse will last for 3 hours and 39 minutes. The entire eclipse from start to end will last for 6 hours and 3 minutes.
A Total Lunar Eclipse has 7 stages:
1. Penumbral Eclipse Starts
2. Partial Eclipse Starts
3. Total Eclipse Starts
4. Maximum Eclipse
5. Total Eclipse Ends
6. Partial Eclipse Ends
7. Penumbral Eclipse Ends
This is the first Total Lunar Eclipse since November 8, 2022. There will be another Total Lunar Eclipse later this year on September 7, 2025.
