The ability of performing all the basic SUP techniques and maneuvers in a safe and demonstrative manner is one of the crucial requirements for all professionally working SUP Instructors. During a VDWS Instructor training course, these skills have to be demonstrated during the practical exam.
Two buoys with a distance of approximately 40 meters have to be rounded twice.
The exam starts when the student is touching the first buoy with the paddle blade
One of the distances has to be paddled using the J-Stroke including the change of the paddle side.
Reaching the other side, the student first has to touch the buoy again with the paddle before rounding the buoy with a crossbow turn.
After the turn, the buoy has to be touched again, before making the way back by now using the C-Stroke technique during which a change of the paddle side is not allowed.
Once back on the first buoy, the buoy has to be touched again, before rounding the buoy now with a pivot turn.
The exam ends, as soon as the student will touch the buoy after the pivot turn again.
The student can freely choose the order in which those different techniques are demonstrated.
In order to pass the exam successfully, all mentioned parts need to be demonstrated and the time needed to do so, won´t be longer that 1,5times the time set by the examiner.
The student performed the entire exam without falling in the water and for each turn, the paddle is plunged maximum twice in the water.
