Needlepoint Rug Washing Boston
There are particular cautions a cleaner has to be aware of when washing a Chinese needlepoint area rug.
First:
All colors, esp. the deep rich colors must be tested using the detergents you plan on washing with. We use a 24 hr "wet test" to insure dyes won't bleed. If some do we usually can adjust our detergent and dry times to prevent substantial bleeding.
Second:
Because these rugs tend to lose their shape when wet cleaned standard practice is the "tack out" the rug on a wooden floor either during the wash process, continuing until completely dry or tack out as soon as the wash process is done, leaving the rug tacked for a minimum of 24 hrs or more, ensuring a complete dry-down.
