Western Australian Government Railways Dd 592 steam locomotive was removed from the Australian Railways Historical Society's (ARHS) Museum in Bassendean and towed to Midland Workshops on 24 May 1984, where Westrail (WAGR) restored it to working order as a Bicentennial Project.
It was originally locally built by the Midland Workshops in 1946 for hauling passenger services in the Perth suburban area. It was preserved by the ARHS in 1972 and stored as a static display at their Bassendean Museum.
On 20 July, 1985 Dd 592 once again led a train through Perth suburbs. After ten years in steam and a number of metro and country tours, Dd 592 last ran to Mooliabeenie on 4 August 1995. It was returned to Bassendean for display on 2 May 1999. It is currently out of service.
