Описание: The North Norfolk Railway is dear to my heart. I was a 1950s baby with a dad, who made steam engines his life. I grew up in a home that had steam engine whistles, totems and other railway memorabilia as ornaments.

Our garden had train tracks, dods and railway notices in it. I thought that was normal for everyone until I got older and realised other children didn’t have such strange things in their gardens. My mum was fine with it all and our family holidays were spent visiting narrow gauge railways in Wales and Kent.

We were regular visitors to the steam museum at Clapham in London. I remember travelling on main line steam trains as a small child but steam trains quickly became relics of the past as diesel took over from coal as a fuel.

So yesterday, instead of doing housework, we went to Sheringham to watch Hercules pull into the station before uncoupling from the train and going off to rest for the night.

As a child, I wasn’t that impressed with steam railways, really. But now, at 69, I so love being around engines and I totally get my dad’s love of them.
