27th Winter Universiade, Granada, Spain - Dates: February 4th to 14th, 2015
STRBSKE PLESO, located in the High Tatras as part of the municipal lands of the village of Strba, is the highest health resort area in Slovakia. It lies on the southern shore of Lake Strbske Pleso at an altitude of 1,351 meters above sea level, therefore there are no problems with the preparation of snow trails or the HS 100 ski jump from December to March.
It attracts with great skiing conditions on well-groomed tracks for slalom, downhill and cross-country skiing as well as a high level of services. Strbske Pleso offers nine kilometres of easy to medium-difficulty ski tracks on the southern slopes of Mt. Predne Solisko which are not only popular with families and children but also with experienced skiers. The sports complex currently has six approved trails: sprints measuring 1.4 km and 1.6 km, a 2.5 km classic trail and free technique trails with lengths of 3.3 km, 3.75 km and 5 km. Besides winter sports, Štrbské Pleso also attracts summer tourists looking for opportunities for hiking and climbing the surrounding peaks of the Tatras.
OSRBLIE is small village lying in the pleasant and environmentally impressive surroundings of Central Slovakia only a few kilometres from the geographical midpoint of Slovakia. Osrblie is famous for organising worldwide biathlon events. Since 1994, Osrblie has been the one of the most significant biathlon venues in the world. The history of this biathlon venue started in 1981, when the first biathlon competition was held. Since then, the whole venue has gone through many renovations and other changes. Many top biathlon events have taken place here during this period. The National Biathlon Centre in Osrblie is not only set for biathlon competitions but also is used as a training facility for biathletes of all age categories the whole year round.
Granada, a Universal and University City
Granada is a city that is renowned for its history and its rich cultural and social life. It is one of the world’s top tourist destinations, a melting pot of cultures, a land with ancient history, with a major artistic heritage that includes prehistory, as well as the Roman, Muslim and Christian periods. Its metropolitan area has a population of 536,026 inhabitants and the provinces, the main cities of which are just a two-hour drive away from Granada, have a total of 6,500,000 inhabitants. This ensures a large number of spectators. One of the most important in Spain, the University of Granada is nearly 500 years old. It is recognised internationally in all spheres of university life (teaching, research, culture and services) and it is the favourite European destination for student exchange programmes.
