This is an old classic from '98 that needs no introductions. It inspired countless mods and games, and echoes of its influence can be felt in games to this day. Half Life is a game I've wanted to play for a while, but never really found the time to. Given my recent feelings on another game, I wanted to play this to gain some perspective.

We play as Gordon Freeman, coming into work at Black Mesa as a level 3 research associate. Since we're in the test chamber the words "guinea pig" and "canary" come to mind. Not without reason either seeing as as soon as the test sample is placed, the entire facility starts falling apart. Now we have to try to get out of this place alive, through crumbling hallways and alien infested vents.

So, I'm not sure how far into the game I am, but I already have some semi decent perspective I think. This game is a literal classic with a strangle hold on gaming culture that extends to this day for a reason. Although I will admit I am a little hard-headed in spots. It was while looking through and editing this a hair that I realized "Oh wait, the creature heard me while I was running, and that's why its head popped back up". A very clever, albeit still kind of annoying, bit of immersive gameplay. Which, honestly kind of sums up most of the game thus far for me, where I'm in awe of most of it, but some of its quirks leave me annoyed.

In looking things up about the game, I found that apparently there were initial complaints that the game didn't teach the player anything, and didn't hold your hand making it difficult. Thing is, I'm finding the game to be very intuitive with all of its environmental story telling. However, there is something to be said of the fact of how influential this game was, and that I'm likely finding it so intuitive purely due to that.
