Accountant gets 18 years in fraud case linked to deadly South Florida shooting

Описание: A former South Florida accountant has been sentenced to 18 years in prison, followed by 10 years' probation after pleading guilty in a massive fraud case. The case is now linked to a deadly shooting in Boynton Beach.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Sadman Dawla, 35, pled guilty to felony charges stemming from a fraud scheme that unfolded over several years. Dawla worked as an accountant for All-American Farms in Boynton Beach.

The affidavit alleges Dawla wrote himself hundreds of unauthorized checks totaling more than $5 million.

In court, Dawla spoke to Circuit Court Judge Daliah Weiss, asking for leniency before he was sentenced.

"I sincerely apologize for the mistake that I made and I've been paying for that for the last two years being in jail here and the sentencing that you're going to give me. I'm just requesting judge to give me 13.8 years so I can do my time and come out and figure life out and be an upstanding citizen. That's all I can request at this point," Dawla said. The minimum sentence he could've received was 13.8 years.
