WEAKER AND FADING

Light leaks,
lets me glimpse
paintings and anguished poems
drawn by some tired
and suffering hands.

The gloomy eyes
of a Saint appear
out of the dark,
deeply piercing
my crushed heart.

Science, art,
even honest faith
were locked in here and chained,
sentenced to a grievous death
and to be buried by Time.

This cell isn’t meant
to kill men.
This cell is meant
to murder their ideas.

Time will wipe everything.

Before Time
opens the door to Death,
each of us will wonder
whether our lives
were worth living.

I feel I haven’t done enough,
I feel incomplete.
And once more
I need to fill this void
with one last mark of mine.

I wonder
if I, too, will be able to
leave a deep mark in those
who walk these cells.

I wonder
how could I win my fight
against the one true enemy,

Time the Torturer,

and reach beyond
my own life.

My thoughts carry
a breath of life
that will carve
onto these cursed walls.

Before Time
opens the door to Death,
each of us will wonder
whether our lives
were worth living.

I feel I haven’t done enough,
I feel incomplete.
And once more
I need to fill this void
with one last mark of mine.

But it’s hard,
because these stone walls
are getting into my head
and they’re shattering
my thoughts,
once used to twirling
like the air.

My Spirit is pulled down
from the sky
and it’s crushed like a snake’s head
being crushed into dust,
down, until its head is
disfigured and smashed.

The dusk light leaks,
and slowly dies
on these painted prison walls.

And I,
like the light,
feel weaker and fading.

And I cannot comprehend
if darkness lies in this room
or within the dungeons of my mind.

“Sugnu mortu e ancora haiu a moriri”.
