Under the umbrella of Storyectomy* Family Pride is a community-driven mental health initiative using the art of storytelling and comedy to bring light, love, and unity for all LGBTQIA+ community members and allies.

This storytelling show is a culmination of Storyectomy*, our six-week storytelling initiative, and in this iteration, LGBTQ+ community members and allies will share their personal and comedic stories on stage alongside pro comedians! "As a teenager, if you told me I would be married for 20 years, have three kids, be a physician, and live in a free country, I would have laughed.

Born in a war-torn country, life was a constant struggle. But with hope, and a bit of luck, I embarked on a journey to freedom. At 19, I arrived in the U.S. as a refugee, alone but filled with dreams.

I also had to come to terms with being gay. Acceptance wasn't easy, but it was liberating. I vividly remember coming out to my mother and sharing the joyous news of fatherhood at the same time. Our bond grew stronger than ever.

My first job at K-Mart on San Fernando Road paid minimum wage, but it taught me the value of hard work and it helped me turn my childhood dream of becoming a physician into reality. Today, I practice medicine and serve as a Chief Operating Officer, navigating the complexities of healthcare.

Along the way, I met the love of my life, and together we built a family of five.

And the punchline: I wear many hats - doctor, poet, stand-up comedian, friend, husband, and proud father. Life started with uncertainty, but it’s been a journey of self-discovery, growth, and unexpected blessings.

I've learned that with courage and resilience, even the wildest dreams can become a beautiful reality. Here's to embracing life's adventures and finding joy in every step."
