(20 Sep 2016) Jordanian Prime Minister Hani al-Mulki cast his ballot in Irbid city on Tuesday during Jordan's parliamentary election.
Al-Mulki joined more than 4 million residents of the pro-Western monarchy who are eligible to cast their votes for 130-member parliament, with 15 seats reserved for women, nine for Christians and three for minority Chechens and Circassians.
Mulki said that the current elections would help Jordan to reform the Kingdom politically, socially and economically.
The election is taking place under revised rules meant to strengthen political parties - a policy seen as a small step toward democratic reform.
Polls opened at 7am local time (0400 GMT) and were to close 12 hours later.
Jordan's largest opposition group, the Muslim Brotherhood, ran for the first time since 2007, after boycotting elections in 2010 and 2013 over a "one man, one vote" system it complained was favouring King Abdullah II's traditional tribal supporters.
Under revised rules, voters choose candidates from lists in 23 electoral districts.
Critics say reforms have fallen short and won't bring real change.
