“I’m Going to Marry You”
On a January night in 1961, Mel Brooks watched Anne Bancroft rehearse. He walked up and said, “I’m Mel Brooks. I’m going to marry you.” She smiled—and later admitted something shifted inside her. They married on August 5, 1964, and welcomed their son Max in 1972. Bancroft won an Oscar for The Miracle Worker (1962). Brooks went on to create Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein in 1974. Max later shared that Mel sang to Anne every night—love songs or silly tunes he made up. When Anne died on June 6, 2005, at 73, Brooks said, “I miss her terribly. She was my guiding light.” Max said their marriage shaped his idea of love. For Mel, Anne never really left—she lived on in his laughter and every tender memory. Drop a ❤️ if you believe in love like this.
