Directors Commentary: My favorite head cannon is that Pitch originally was a Guardian, a positive force and protector of primitive man in a time when survival meant staying by the fire and it was safer to fear the dark. In the modern era, this need for fear is obsolete, so modern Guardians are focused on protecting hope and imagination. A soundly defeated Pitch must now figure out where he stands in this new world that no longer needs him, and cannot be reclaimed by force. If Pitch were to be drawn to anyone in the Guardians it would be Jack ("What goes better than cold and dark?") and Sandy (dream powers, same as Pitch). Their purpose, camaraderie and power are all symbols of what Pitch has lost.
