This UK ranks highest in the world for the quality of its Palliative Care, according to the Quality of Death Index (The Economist (2015)*. New UK national guidelines on care of the dying (NICE 2015)** released this week put an emphasis on individualised care, good communication and shared decision-making for the dying and those close to them. This means that end of life care should be carried out by competent confident professionals in partnership with the dying person and their family. The most important thing about care of the dying is asking the person what they want and working with them to meet their needs.
