Cadet Larry Pickett Jr., a member of the U.S. Military Academy Class of 2028 and a safety on the Army football team, was awarded the Soldier’s Medal after rescuing a driver from a crashed vehicle moments before it burst into flames near West Point, New York.
Pickett and his father pulled the man from the wreckage while downed power lines sparked around the vehicle. The following footage shows video captured during the dramatic rescue.
The Soldier’s Medal is the U.S. Army’s highest award for heroism outside of combat.
