I took a chance on one of the $62.99 sale Hobby Plus CR18 crawlers at Banggood https://tinyurl.com/2p8zc6wx.

For the price, I couldn't be more impressed. It's a decent crawler with metal frame rails and all plastic components.

With a few upgrades, it now crawls pretty well. What it lacks in low speed control and finesse, it totally makes up for in overall horsepower for being the same motor that comes with the SCX24 and Gelande II 1:18.

Custom Xtra Speed shocks were done by using the plastic socket ends from the factory shocks. They were glued onto the shafts of the Xtra Speed shocks and I also used the silver factory springs in order to keep the original suspension intact, but now it would have adjustability and considerably more travel.

All frame links, moving parts, etc were lubricated with silicone lubricant. Differentials were torn down, greased, and rebuilt. Fast Eddy Bearings were installed in the steering C-Cups. Driveshafts were out of phase from the factory. This was corrected.

An Emax All-metal gear servo was installed and that really pushed the steering to new limits. The electronics are okay but not great. this truck would definitely benefit from a different ESC with much better low speed control. Which may happen at some point.
