Go to any browser & search Yahoo mail.
Then go your to account info & security. Here, you get 3 options. Physical Security key is the most secure option. The 2nd most secure option is the "Authenticator app". By better I mean more secure but it's more complicated than that.

Install Google Authenticator app on your phone if you haven't yet installed. You could also use Microsoft Authenticator.

IMPORTANT: You could lose access to your account forever without "Emergency Recovery Code". Nobody should set up an authenticator verification method without having a recovery code for any account and not just Yahoo.

🚫 Don't "Emergency Recovery Code"
► Don't take a screen shot
► Don't write it to your computer
► Don't email or text it to anyone
Write it on a paper & keep it in a safe place. Remember if lose your phone or your phone breaks, then you'd need to use this recovery code to log in to your account

Yahoo Mail doesn't work properly on Microsoft Edge. It doesn't scroll down smoothly as you can see.

Unfortunately, Yahoo doesn't allow you to set up more than 1 verification method. So, you can't have both the Authenticator app & Text Message as your 2nd step verification.

WARNING: If you'd lose access to your phone. For example, if your phone is stolen or dies, then you can't access your authenticator code for Yahoo & you could permanently lose access to your Yahoo Mail. In few years' time, you might lose your "emergency recovery code" or forget where you wrote or kept it. Then, you'll completely lose access to your Yahoo Mail.

For the sake of convenience & lower risk of losing access, it's not a bad idea to set up a text message as your 2nd verification method instead. With text message, even if you'd lose your phone, you could always request for a new SIM card & regain access to your text messages.
