Why is the Monpa community in Arunachal Pradesh struggling to sustain the spice star anise? More than 60% of star anise trees have disappeared in the last 84 years, leading to this spice being categorised as endangered.
Conservation efforts are underway to combat the declining harvests and unfair trade practices. World Wide Fund for Nature-India, is forming village committees to support farmers with spice collection, sorting, packaging, and fair profit-sharing in the hopes of helping the struggling star anise to shine
