Описание: At approximately the same time as the release of the Viper Coupe version GTS, the car known as the GTS-R race model was also introduced to make a splash in the motor sports car market. Chrysler then went and organized a team to participate in GT endurance races all over the world, including the Le Mans 24-hour race. A partnership was formed with ORECA, the team from France who were extremely well-known for their manufacturing and operation of endurance racers.

Though the GTS-R's engine had a maximum output of more than 690 HP, it contained mechanical components which were not very different from normal vehicles marketed to the public, and no different from a publicly sold racer of a private team.

This was because it participated in the GTS class where the modifications allowed were limited. However, the difference in overall ability was very clear, and it was difficult for a private team using a Viper to drive faster than the ORECA. This did not change even when ORECA took over the actual manufacture of publicly sold Viper GTS-R racers, and made it clear that there was an invisible wall between a works team and a private team.

In 2000, the ORECA team aimed for a world GTS championship in the 24-hour ALMS (American Le Mans Series). Its rivals in this class included the Chevrolet Corvette CR5 and the Porsche 911 GT2, but there was little they could do to stand in the way of the powerful Viper. Combined with the performance of the Viper, Team ORECA displayed its true strengths to the world when it became the ALMS 24-hour class champion.
