IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A LAWYER AND AN ATTORNEY?

In this video Attorney Steve discusses legal fun facts and the difference or distinction in legal definitions between the words “Attorney” and “Lawyer.”

Although the terms "lawyer" and "attorney" are often used interchangeably, there is actually a distinct difference between the two. A lawyer is someone who has been trained in the history and philosophy of law, while an attorney is a licensed professional who provides legal services to clients. In the United States, all attorneys must first complete an undergraduate degree, then pass the Bar Exam in order to be licensed to practice law. Lawyers may choose to specialize in a particular area of law, such as criminal law or family law. Attorneys usually work for law firms, but they can also work independently. Some attorneys also choose to become judges or law professors. Whether you need legal assistance with a contract dispute or a traffic ticket, it's important to know the difference between a lawyer and an attorney so that you can choose the best professional for your needs.
