This short documents the bobbin configuration process for a P90 guitar pickup, where the two vulcanized fiber flatwork pieces are bonded to a red methacrylate core to define the coil structure. Perfect alignment is critical at this stage, as any offset directly affects coil geometry, winding consistency, and long-term mechanical stability.
To achieve precise centering of the red methacrylate spacer, two dedicated alignment jigs are used. These jigs are designed ad hoc by Solano© specifically for this flatwork geometry, ensuring repeatable and perfectly centered assembly between the upper and lower fiber pieces.
The methacrylate core is bonded to the vulcanized fiber using cyanoacrylate adhesives, providing fast initial fixation and high final rigidity. Once assembled, the bobbin is left to cure for 24 hours to guarantee maximum hardness and structural integrity. This curing period is essential to withstand not only the mechanical pressure exerted by the copper wire during the coil winding process, but also the stresses introduced later by the installation and tightening of the pole screws, preventing deformation of the fiber flatwork and ensuring a stable, durable pickup coil.
