The River Lambourn is finally rising. Our chalk-bedded winterbourne dries out every winter and it is very exciting at this time of year to see the springs start filling up the deeper pools in the river bed here in East Garston. Soon the stream will be flowing and the ducks and moorhens will arrive.
From Great Shefford onwards the stream flows year round - it's just our upper reaches where it is a winterbourne as the bed is chalk.
