Scottish Island Blacksmith - We Learn Traditional Skills Near Our Cottage On Skye - Ep150

Описание: Willie, Sarah and their dogs, Jack Spaniels & Nori, left their suburban life and moved over the sea to a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, in the Scottish Highlands.

Here we grow our own food, do renovation projects, explore the stunning landscapes, take trips in our wee boat, work on our rusty but reliable Land Rover Defender, forage for wild food and generally try to live a slower, simpler pace of life.

This week the Skye Lifers are escaping the cold, icy weather and getting hot under the collar - as we have a go at blade-smithing for the very first time!

Our friends - Hannah & Marty - have built their own blacksmith & forge right here on the island where they run courses on making Sgian Dubh knives, a traditional blade from the Scottish Highlands. They kindly show us the process of making a knife from start to finish. Sarah does most of the hard work with the hammer & anvil, but she gets lots of help from Willie and the dogs of course!

Plus - we return the favour by helping them set up their very own YouTube channel - 'Fox's Hollow Blacksmith' - documenting what it's like to set up & run a forge here on the island.
