Built between 2005–2008 and opened on 1 March 2008, the Singapore Flyer (165 m) was designed by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa with engineering by Arup. The S$240 million project became an instant icon and held the title of world’s tallest observation wheel until 2014. Financial struggles led to receivership in 2013, and it was acquired by Straco Leisure/Straco Entertainment in 2014, marking a surprising comeback under new ownership. Unknown facts: each air‑conditioned capsule holds about 28 people, a full revolution takes ~30 minutes, and the Flyer doubles as a unique event venue for private dinners and proposals.
