Описание:
Gingivitis = inflammation of the gums caused by plaque. It’s reversible with good home care and professional cleanings.
Periodontitis = advanced gum disease where inflammation leads to attachment loss and bone loss around teeth. Damage isn’t reversible—but it can be treated and controlled with periodontal therapy and maintenance.
Nu Image Surgical’s Periodontist, Dr. Justin Tomack, explains signs, risks, and when to see a specialist.
Key differences:
• Gingivitis: red/swollen gums, bleeding when brushing/flossing, no bone loss on X-rays
• Periodontitis: deep pockets, gum recession, loose/shifting teeth, bone loss on X-rays, possible bad breath
What to do:
• Brush 2x/day + clean between teeth daily (floss/interdental/water flosser)
• Get professional cleanings; periodontal maintenance if diagnosed with periodontitis
• Quit smoking/vaping; manage diabetes; eat a balanced diet
