What happens when the professor becomes the student?
In this video, two MTGN333 Bladesmithing TAs at the Colorado School of Mines evaluate a knife without knowing who made it. They grade it using the exact Blade #1 student rubric, applying the same criteria used for every student in the course.
Only after the final score is assigned do they learn the truth: the knife was made by the professor.
This video is about more than a grade. It’s about process, accountability, and whether a well-designed rubric holds up when applied equally—no matter who’s being evaluated.
Would this knife pass as a student’s first blade?
Did the TAs grade it fairly?
Let us know what you think in the comments.
