Bermuda Vacation 1993 ~ Round Trip Carriage Ride, Coachman and Tour Guide is Mr. Raymond Tucker

Описание: Not that long ago, the City of Hamilton had a sheltered horse and carriage stand and the carriages were licensed for hire for 30 minute tours.
This is one of those tours. Our coachman and tour guide is Mr. Raymond Leroy Tucker who continues to drive today - now he owns a minibus tour company specializing in private tours of the island.
Heading East on Front Street, we pass the Cenotaph in front of the Cabinet Building or Senate Chamber of the Government. Left turn onto Court Street heading North past the Sessions House and the St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church.
Cedar Avenue is next with a stop at Victoria Park and a passing glimpse of the Masjid Muhammad Mosque complex. Look at the container truck safely passing - yikes!
Turing on to Marsh Folly Road, you can see Government House with its commanding view of the old dump and St John's Churchyard. A right turn onto Cannel Road and through the tunnel by the Tennis Stadium, where today you can play Pickleball.
Like magic we appear on Serpentine Road and past the Bermuda Electric Light Company, which today is sadly no longer a Bermuda company.
On Pitts Bay road we pass many beautiful homes, all of which are still there, including "Westmeath", a home for the elderly.
We turn in the entrance of "Norwood", for a quick stop to recharge the horse. We continue on Pitts Bay Road and a bush medicine recipe for "Match me if you can" (Jacobs Coat) is shared.
At the end of Pitts Bay Road, we pass the landmark Hamilton Princess Hotel and Bacardi International Headquarters. A stop at the much missed limestone Moongate, with its Honeymooners Make a Wish legend sign. The Bakery complex and the adjoining Outerbridge Building are both gone and currently under development.
Back on Front Street, The Bank of Bermuda building has been renovated beautifully into "Point House", Triminghams was razed and replaced by HSBC, but the Birdcage remains.
We end in the horse and carriage shelter in front of the cruise ship "Horizon", with a glimpse of the hole that was the Traders Gate building next to the Emporium.
Following several dangerous incidents, 2 of which are noted below, the City revoked the licenses and discontinued the horse and carriage tour industry in 2007.

"Trouble erupted on April 25 when two horses broke loose and tore through a barrier and down Front Street with their carriage".
Occurred during Harbor Nights, 19 people were injured.
"Three weeks later, a second unmanned horse and carriage bolted along Front Street onto Bermudiana Road before a member of the public grabbed the carriage and brought it to a halt on Par-la-Ville Road".
"Mayor Sutherland Madeiros said earlier this week: "There are people in the public who think it's the worst thing we could do, to ban horses, and there are people who think it's the worst thing we could do not to ban horses."
