A few hours before their performance at The Mist on Friday, May 12, 2023, we sat at a relatively quiet Santuri Salon with Unganisha to talk about their debut EP, ‘Kucheza!.’ After facing distribution challenges, they finally released the EP on Friday, February 11, 2022. It is experimental electronic club music. ‘Kucheza!’ is a vibrant intercultural body of work. Labdi Ommes and Bernt Isak Wærstad marry sounds and cultures, providing a fresh take on electronic and traditional music.

Their debut featured in all our lists of Top Kenyan EPs of 2022. Labdi and Bernt created a banger of a project. This wholesome conversation goes to the depths of ‘Kucheza!’ and the dynamic and colorful duo of Unganisha. It contains banter, entertaining anecdotes, truthful takes, and eye-opening perspectives. They’re playful and honest. Off and onstage, their chemistry is apparent.
