Found this gem while cleaning out the closet during a visit home. And here I am, another day, choosing to live out of the closet and I am so thankful!

Violence against LGBTQIA+ people is very real - physically, emotionally, on the street, and in government.

I’ve seen a lot of progress just in my lifetime. I’ve made progress over that time. But, there is a lot of room for improvement in the US and abroad.

A law was recently passed in Uganda allowing for lifetime imprisonment, the death penalty, and other unjust punishments for queer people, someone having sex with someone who has AIDS, renters who rent to gay people, and those who “promote homosexuality” - like, a reporter talking to an activist about these events.

In the US there have been a string of anti-lgbt laws and anti-trans legislation in recent years. This is violence against the queer community.

For anyone who is safe enough to celebrate the joy of pride, I wish you the very best this month and hope you can reflect on and embrace the good fortune that you have.

If you’re not in a place where you feel safe and accepted. I’m sorry. We all need to do better. You are loved.

Pride is a protest.
