The question remains whether these massive machines give Tesla an advantage over its competitors and if so, how much of an advantage. Given Tesla's history of undertaking large projects, it is not surprising that they would use Giga Presses in their factories. These machines are incredibly large, likely much bigger than an average apartment. Giga Presses are die casting machines that are among the most powerful ever built, with a clamping force capacity of 61 kilo newtons. They weigh over 400 tonnes and require more than 20 flatbed trucks to transport just one. Their dimensions are 20 meters by 7.5 meters by 6 meters. The Italian manufacturing group known as IDRA produces these machines, and Tesla has been a repeat customer, with multiple outstanding orders yet to be filled.
