NETWORKS OF PRACTICE CONCEPT - Policy Visibility Drive

Описание: The Ghana Health Service is mandated to provide and manage comprehensive and accessible health services at the District Hospitals, Health Centres, Maternity homes, CHPS zones and in the communities. Since 1978, when Primary Health Care was birthed at Alma-Ata, Ghana has prioritized Primary Health Care as its central strategy of ensuring a healthy population. This includes School-based infirmaries, Workplace infirmaries, Market place clinics, Maternity homes, health centres, CHPS compounds, Chemical Shops and local Pharmacies

Over the years, the emphasis on CHPS and the District Hospitals to provide service delivery and local priority setting has resulted in an under-prioritization of the Health Centres, which serve as a referral link between the District Hospitals and the CHPS zones. This gap within the PHC system has resulted in difficulty in the implementation of the “gatekeeper system” in Ghana’s Referral Policy and Guidelines of 2013.

There is therefore the need to establish Networks of Practice at the sub-district, using a hub & spoke approach where a Model Health Centre is the hub and the spokes are the health facilities surrounding these Model Health centres. The network of practice is a design model that arranges service delivery assets into a network consisting of an anchor establishment, called the hub, which offers a full array of services, complemented by secondary establishments, called spokes, which offer more limited-service arrays
