In the last five years, India has made remarkable progress in arresting maternal and infant mortality. Maternal mortality, infant mortality and under-five mortality rates have declined faster than global figures. According to a UN report 8.02 lakh deaths were reported in the country in 2017, the lowest in five years... The UN report says three infants die every two minutes on an average in India due to lack of access to water, sanitation, proper nutrition or basic health services.
Let's look at the steps taken by the government to reduce mortality rates ...the challenges it faces and the reasons behind the sharp decline in mortality rates in recent years.
