RUKSIN, March 4:-The Land Donors Committee of Industrial Growth Centre (LDCIGC), Niglok–Ngorlung, convened a press briefing today at the Ruksin RWD Inspection Bungalow to address long-standing concerns regarding the Industrial Growth Centre (IGC) established in 1997.
The briefing was attended by 51 household members of the land donor families. It was led by LDCIGC President Shri Kong Panyang and spokesperson Shri Tonggeng Panyang, who highlighted key issues related to the memorandum, complaints, and agreement made with the district administration during the initial establishment of IGC Niglok.
Background of the 1997 Agreement, According to the LDCIGC, an agreement was signed on November 12, 1997, between the following parties: The Land Settlement Officer, East Siang District,
Deputy Director of Industries, Late Tatong Padung'Chairman of Land Owners, Shri Tonggeng Panyang, Secretary of the Land Owners Committee, Shri Tamat Jonnom, Shri Tasi Panggeng and Shri Tarung Tabing members.
The agreement clearly stated that if any business opportunities, service provisions, or contract works emerged within the Industrial Growth Centre, first priority would be given to the land donors.
Allegations by the Land Donors Committee-The LDCIGC stated that, despite the agreement, none of the land donors have received any contract or service-related benefits since the establishment of the IGC. Instead, they claim the situation has led to repeated disputes, particularly concerning the allotment of land to non-government agencies.
The committee further expressed dissatisfaction, stating that:
The land donors have not received compensation. The land has allegedly not been utilized according to the original terms of the agreement. The promised priority in business and service opportunities has not been honored.
Decision Announced, In light of these grievances, the Land Donors Committee announced its decision to reclaim the donated land. The committee stated that since the agreement has not been implemented in spirit and practice, and no benefits have been extended to the donor families, they feel compelled to take back their land.
