Northern California Overlanding – Chasing the Lost Coast | Part 2

Описание: Part 2 of a multi-day Northern California overlanding trip through some of the state’s most remote backcountry and coastline.

This episode continues our journey from the Smith River toward the Lost Coast, Big Lagoon, and the remote Mattole region. After traveling north along the Smith River with plans to camp at Gold Bluffs Beach, muddy conditions and limited access pushed us farther up the coast. We arrived at Big Lagoon after dark and set up camp for the night.

The following morning, thick fog and mist covered the coastline, creating a quiet, disorienting atmosphere that made the place feel remote and unfamiliar. From there, we turned back east and spent the day exploring Humboldt County’s higher elevations, ranch lands, and long stretches of empty backroads.

By late day, we returned west toward the northern terminus of the Lost Coast at Mattole. The next morning, I headed out solo on the drive home, with a brief stop among the Humboldt redwoods before leaving the region.

This is Northern California overlanding at its best; long days, changing plans, and miles of road where the drive itself becomes the experience.
