NAMPOL's Community Affairs Unit arrested 3 foreign nationals who were allegedly practicing witchcraft in a sting operation yesterday in Khomasdal. They were found doing business by defrauding money from locals. They claimed to be from Uganda and were found in possession of N$37 500 in cash. The police also seized items used in rituals by the suspects such as animal skins and bones, pottery, medication that originate from India as well as pictures believed to be given by those wanting their lovers back.
Law enforcement officials could not establish how they entered into Namibia. It was uncovered on their mobile devices that they were sending home money to their families, one transaction shows that they managed to send N$200 000 yesterday. Although investigations continue, they will appear before the court tomorrow where they can expect to be charged with multiple counts of crimes such as fraud under false pretense and working without a permit. The N$37 500 is likely to be forfeited to the state, and the materials to be set alight.
