In this video I continue exploring working with wax, moving beyond paper to experiment with fabric, embroidery, and old maps.
I show how different materials respond to wax, how the surface changes as it absorbs heat, and how to work with that transformation rather than trying to control it too tightly. I also share what to do when wax becomes too thick, and how to gently remove excess wax to bring the surface back into balance.
Along the way I use a few different wax methods, including beeswax from a tin and encaustic pellets, and talk about how each behaves differently depending on what I’m working on.
All of these waxed elements come together in a collage panel for my Elenor Glanville series, where texture, translucency, and surface play an important role.
