Melnais stārķis~ 😱 OXF6 is defending against a bird of prey~11:52 am 2024/07/05

Описание: It was probably a white-tailed eagle. He defended for about 20 minutes, then the bird of prey flew to the other side and landed over the nest. Now everyone is in defense mode.

I found it amazing that the youngest defended most of the time alone.

Ring No. & Age of the chicks today:
OXF3 = #1 = 43.79 days
OXF4 =#2 = 43,60 days
OXF5 = #3 = 42.99 days
OXF6 =#4 = 41.67 days

Online nesting chicks:
0XF3 second oldest (hatched 22.5. ~23:00), 26.6 days, presumably male, weight 2.33 kg (126.6% of "normal")
0XF4 senior (hatched 5/22 18:42) 26.79 days, almost definitely female, weight 2.09 kg (112.7%)
0XF5 third (hatched 5/23 14:01) 25.99 days, believed to be male, weight 1.9 kg (106.0%)
0XF6 youngest (hatched 24.5. 21:45) 24.67 days, judging by weight, could be a female, but could also be a weak male (as the youngest); weight 1.54 kg (91.2%)

📍 According to the information available to Dr. Māris Strazds, the nesting area of black storks has been known here since at least 2003, however, this nest was only found in January 2021.

📍 The nest could have been built in 2010 after the previous nest was abandoned. In 2021, there were no chicks, in 2022, three young birds were successfully hatched. In the previous nest in this area, one of the adult birds was ringed, while in this nest in 2022, both nesting adult birds were ringless.
