Charlottenstraße runs between Besselstraße in Kreuzberg and Dorotheenstraße. At Zimmerstraße it crosses the district border. In its course it crosses Leipziger Straße and boulevard Unter den Linden.
It borders on the Leipziger Straße complex.
The previous name after 1674 until the end of the 18th century was Stallstraße. The buildings of Dorotheenstadt preserved in the street are in the Berlin list of monuments. Until 1945, the Lutter & Wegner wine cellar at Charlottenstraße 49 was a well-known institution beyond Berlin.
