The complexity of migration SAP S/4HANA is not as worrying as the costs that can be incurred if migration is left too late.
By 2027, migration from SAP’s older R/3 ECC systems to S/4HANA will need to be complete but so far the move is slow.
Alarmingly, the Americas’ SAP Users’s Group reports that only 16 percent of SAP users are live on S/4HANA and even worse the German users’ group only reports 12 percent of users live on the platform.
These two groups represent the largest SAP user groups and paint an alarming picture for companies who need to migrate.
Make no mistake, the process of migrating from one platform to another, even though the platforms are both from SAP is an arduous task. Beyond that, the costs that can be incurred may put many off but failure to migrate could cost more than you realise.
Not only would businesses need to pay SAP a premium in order to receive support for legacy systems, but migration partners may also have their hands full by the time some businesses realise the mountain of work that lies before them.
“There is a significant risk of increasing the business costs the later you leave migration. This is because the migration process may be harder to support the later you leave it and with SAP having already extended the deadline once I think they are quite unlikely to extend it further. SAP really wants to get everybody into the new S/4HANA platform. Some customers will dig their heels in and won’t move but they will have to buy extended support from SAP which can become costly to the business. It’s better to invest that cost upfront to move to a newer infrastructure,” explains sales engineer at SUSE, Brain Petch.
A partner that can assist with the migration is CoCre8, a local firm that strives to assist customers with growing their business and realising its full potential.
It’s important to understand that the adage “you have to spend money to make money” holds true as regards migration to SAP S/4HANA but costs can be managed so long as decisions are well informed.
CoCre8 is deeply embedded in the migration processes for SAP S/4HANA and as such as a thorough understanding of the complexities and pain points experienced by customers.
“Not everything is fit for the cloud,” explains senior solutions architect at CoCre8 Technology Solutions, Tirat Keshav.
But whittling down the list of what applications and services are fit for cloud is not a simple process and it can be costly which is why delays are not tenable at this stage.
You need to have some form of information at hand before you start any exercise. It’s not as simple as migrating and hoping for the best. We see companies asking how they move over with the least amount of disruptions and back in the day we would propose running a parallel system in place and hope it works. These days that sort of solution is nearly impossible. So at CoCre8 we have tools that can assist with how and what to migrate,” Keshav adds.
Migration to a new platform is bound to be complex and fraught with pitfalls which is why a trusted partner such as SUSE and CoCre8 is so valuable in the process. These experts are able to assess your needs and formulate a plan that will ensure your business processes continue to function while also migrating.
Time is running out everyday that you don’t start the move to SAP S/4HANA, contact SUSE and CoCre8 today to get started on your cloud journey.
