Day 27: Saheliyon Ki Bari, Udaipur 9 February 2026

Описание: A Lake Island, Dancing Fountains, and a Perfect End to the Day

My next experience was a boat ride on Lake Pichola. We glided along the lake’s edge, passing the majestic City Palace rising above the water and the steps of Gangaur Ghat where we had stood earlier. The views from the boat were spectacular, the palace shimmering in the sunlight, the ghats alive with colour, and the Aravalli hills framing the scene.

After about thirty minutes, we reached the island garden in the middle of the lake. We were given time to wander, relax, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Under the warm sunshine, with the lake sparkling all around, it felt truly special - serene, beautiful, and almost dreamlike.

The return journey was shorter, and Pushker was waiting for me at the pier. From there, we met up with Gugan and continued toward Fateh Sagar Lake, this time exploring the part I hadn’t seen earlier. Pushker explained that in the evenings this area becomes a lively gathering spot for locals - camel and horse rides during the day, and rows of street‑food stalls that cater mostly to local tastes. Out on the lake sits Nehru Island, home to a park and a popular boat landing.

Our next stop was Saheliyon Ki Bari, and what a delightful surprise it was. Unlike anything I had seen so far, this garden is a tranquil oasis of fountains, lotus pools, marble pavilions, and lush greenery. The water for the fountains comes directly from Fateh Sagar Lake, and the sound of the cascading water creates a soothing backdrop.

The garden was built by the king as a place of leisure for the royal ladies - a sanctuary for relaxation, music, and dancing. Pushker pointed out the seat beneath the bougainvillea tree (now enclosed) where the king would sit to watch performances, while the ladies observed from their balconies above. It was easy to imagine the elegance of those evenings.

He also showed me a bougainvillea tree over a century old, its branches heavy with vibrant blossoms. In one of the pools, lotus plants were growing, and a single flower had bloomed that very morning - small, delicate, and beautiful.

Saheliyon Ki Bari was enchanting - peaceful, refreshing, and full of quiet charm.

For lunch, Pushker suggested returning to 1559 AD Restaurant, where I had eaten yesterday. It seems to be a favourite among visitors. I even recognised a few people from the boat ride earlier.

Today I ordered Safed Murg, a mild chicken curry cooked with yoghurt, cashews, and poppy seeds. It had a gentle sweetness and was absolutely delicious. As usual, I ordered just one piece of buttered tandoori roti and the same green salad to help soak up the gravy - a strategy that worked perfectly. I finished with Alphonso mango ice cream, rich and fragrant.

While waiting for my meal, I enjoyed an elderflower, cucumber, and lime soda, which was wonderfully refreshing in the afternoon warmth.

It was another thoroughly enjoyable day.
