On February 22, 1918, a baby boy was born… weighing 8 pounds, 7 ounces.
Pretty normal, nothing unusual.
But within months, everything changed.
By six months old, he weighed 30 pounds—nearly double the average baby boy.
And by the time he turned five, he was already 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighed 105 pounds, and wore clothes made for older teenagers.
This little boy was on his way to becoming the tallest man ever recorded.
His shoe size?
37AA.
For comparison… Shaquille O’Neal, one of the biggest athletes on the planet, wears a size 23.
His name was Robert Wadlow, from Alton, Illinois.
He eventually stood at a staggering 8 feet 11 and a half inches, or 2.72 meters tall, and weighed 438 pounds.
But Robert’s height wasn’t just genetics. His incredible growth came from a hyperactive pituitary gland—a condition that doctors at the time had no way to control.
Sadly, Robert Wadlow’s life was short.
He passed away on July 15, 1940, at just 22 years old, after developing an infection in his foot.
And in a final act of protecting his legacy, Robert’s family chose to destroy most of his personal belongings, fearing that people would turn them into “freak” memorabilia.
Robert Wadlow remains a legend—
not just because of his size…
but because of the extraordinary life he lived in such a short time.
Tell me in the comments—did you know about Robert Wadlow before this? And if you want more stories like this one, be sure to like and subscribe.
