WATCH LIVE: Keir Starmer reacts to early results from the local elections

Описание: Reform UK has made huge gains across Greater Manchester as the 2026 local election results roll in this morning (May 8). Nigel Farage's party have claimed major wins in Wigan, Salford, Bolton and Tameside. Elsewhere, the Lib Dems have taken control in Stockport - see the story of the night so far here.

Thousands of seats were up for grabs on 136 councils across the country. In our region, a third of councillors were being elected in all ten boroughs.

A major shock was delivered in Tameside, where Labour lost control of the borough after 47 years. It was also a humiliating night for Labour in Salford and Bolton, with Salford's deputy leader and Bolton's council leader both losing their seats to Reform.
