IAF AN-32 aircraft crashes during landing at Jorhat Air Base; pilot feared dead

An Indian Air Force (IAF) AN-32 transport aircraft crashed while attempting to land at the Rowriah Air Force Station in Assam's Jorhat on Saturday. The Air Force said the pilot is feared dead.

In a statement, the IAF said the aircraft involved was an AN-32 cargo plane used for transporting supplies.

"A military aircraft crashed at the Air Force Station in Jorhat, Assam, during landing. The aircraft involved was an AN-32 cargo plane used for transporting supplies. The accident occurred while the aircraft was attempting to land at the airbase," the statement said.

The aircraft crashed inside the Rowriah Air Force Station premises. The IAF said there are fears that the pilot may have lost his life in the accident. Information about other crew members was not immediately available. Rescue teams reached the crash site soon after the incident and operations were underway.

The cause of the crash has not yet been established. The Air Force said a court of inquiry is being constituted to determine the circumstances that led to the accident. Further details are awaited.
