Missa Oecumenica is written by the late Richard Proulx, a crucial and legendary figure in modern-day Catholic and Christian church music. This setting, originally composed in 1999, takes inspiration from the Byzantine style and Eastern Christian music. Specifically, the setting is based on music from Alexander Archangelsky and Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, as well as Russian Orthodox Tone 1 and the Slavonic 'Te Deum.'"

Oregon Catholic Press, or OCP, describes the setting this way: "Preserving the accessible melodies and rich choral harmonies composed by the late and incomparable Richard Proulx, this masterful revision beautifully weaves elements of chant from Eastern Christianity into the language of modern English liturgy. Further enhance the liturgy with stunning settings of the Our Father and the Trisagion (for use on Good Friday or for devotions to the Chaplet of Divine Mercy liturgy)."
